DTN COMMENTS:  Cash cattle country remains quiet this afternoon, with 
just a few early asking prices noted around $232 in the South, but they 
are still not established in the North. Bids remain very elusive. 
Significant trade volume will likely be delayed until later today and/or 
Friday. The Fed Cattle Exchange reported some trade in Kansas and Texas 
at $230.50 to $232.

Today's slaughter totaled 85,000 head, 42,000 more than a week ago, and 
not comparable to last year. Live cattle futures closed mostly sharply 
higher, up 82 to 125, while feeder cattle issues ended the day mostly 
moderately to sharply higher, up 70 to 145. Beef cutouts are expected to 
close mixed with light to moderate box movement.
